GameDrive Privacy Policy
Effective October 15, 2026
No account, no advertising, no cross-app tracking. Your drives and films stay on your iPhone unless you choose to share them.
Who runs GameDrive
GameDrive is developed and published by Abokado Labs. Contact hello@abokadolabs.com.
Data stored on your device
GameDrive stores game drives (GPS routes, times and distances), sightings and notes, photos you choose to add to a film, the videos you make, selected gear, saved spots, the Seen log, cached wildlife guides and preferences on your iPhone. Chosen photos are copied into the app. Nothing is synced to Abokado Labs.
Deleting the app removes this local data, except what iOS keeps in a device backup. The app uses UserDefaults for app functionality under Apple's approved reason CA92.1.
Location and background recording
GameDrive explains location access before asking, and asks only when you tap Allow Location. It requests While Using the App, never Always. Location powers the map, drive recording, sun calculations, weather and the nearby wildlife guide. Sun calculations run on your device.
Background location is used only while a drive is recording, so the route continues with the screen locked. iOS shows the blue location indicator while it does. You can deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings.
Photos and films
GameDrive requests add-only Photos access to save finished videos to your library. You can choose photos for a film using the system photo picker, which does not require full-library access. Their capture time and location metadata are read on your device to place them on the route. Photos and their metadata are never uploaded.
Videos are made on your device. Videos you choose to share may show your route; use Hide start and finish to keep where you stay private.
Nearby wildlife and species searches
To load nearby wildlife, GameDrive converts the position on your iPhone into a coarse regional cell about 20–40 km across. That area, the search radius, animal group and month go to the GameDrive wildlife service at abokadolabs.com and iNaturalist. Species searches that cannot be answered offline go to the same service. No precise coordinate, persistent identifier, sightings or notes are sent.
Species search text is passed to iNaturalist to find matching species. Abokado Labs does not log it. Results may be cached by search text for a few hours, but not by who searched. Nothing links a search to a person or device. The service uses the IP address briefly for rate limiting and does not store it.
The service uses aggregate iNaturalist reporting data and does not return or cache observation pins, exact source-observation coordinates or exact distances. Regional guides may be cached by coarse area and month. Species images have complete CC0 or CC BY attribution. See iNaturalist’s terms.
Weather
Your position goes to Apple WeatherKit to request a forecast, under Apple’s Privacy Policy. If WeatherKit is unavailable, the position goes to MET Norway at api.met.no, rounded to about 1 km. Abokado Labs receives neither position. Forecasts may be cached locally and labelled when stale.
Maps and satellite imagery
Map tiles are fetched from OpenFreeMap, Mapterhorn for terrain, and Digital Earth Africa and EOX for satellite imagery. Like any web request, a tile request shows the server roughly which area is being viewed. No account or identifier is sent.
OpenStreetMap data is licensed under ODbL. Satellite imagery is licensed under CC BY 4.0: Copernicus Sentinel-2 data processed by Digital Earth Africa, and EOX Sentinel-2 cloudless 2016. Map credits are available in Settings → Credits.
Photo identification
Camera access is used only for Photo ID, an internal beta that is not part of the public release. It is not enabled publicly until licensing, accuracy and performance requirements are met. When enabled for testing, selected or captured photos and predictions are processed on-device and are never uploaded. The system Photos picker does not require full-library access.
Anonymous usage counts
Anonymous analytics are enabled by default and can be turned off in Settings. Each event carries only the app name, event name, app version and build, iOS major version and processor architecture. There is no identifier or location.
Current events are install, launch, daily active use, Settings opened, analytics turned off, advisor opened, location opened, wildlife opened, advisor used, weather request succeeded or failed, wildlife guide downloaded, wildlife profile opened, and Photo ID succeeded or failed. Photo ID events apply to internal beta use.
The payload contains no gear, scenarios, camera settings, forecast data, recommendations, species names, photos, predictions, drives, routes, sightings or notes. The Abokado Labs endpoint does not retain IP-derived country or user-agent data for GameDrive events. Analytics failures do not affect app use.
What Abokado Labs does not collect
We do not collect your name, email address, account, contacts, advertising identifier, cross-app tracking data or payment details; Apple handles purchases. We do not collect your drives, routes, sightings, notes, photos or videos. Photo metadata is read locally, as described above, and is never uploaded.
Purchases
Apple processes purchases. GameDrive checks the purchase record Apple provides on your device to see whether a Safari Pass or GameDrive Forever is active, and when a pass ends. GameDrive does not receive or store payment details, and no purchase information is sent to Abokado Labs.
Your choices
You can turn off analytics in Settings, manage location and Photos permissions in iOS Settings, delete local data, or delete the app. Contact hello@abokadolabs.com with privacy questions.
