Terms of Use

Effective May 2, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Keys app on macOS and iOS, published by Abokado Labs. By installing or using Keys, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the app — deleting it removes your local copy.

License

You're granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use Keys on devices you own or control, subject to these terms and the Apple Media Services Terms (which Apple imposes on every App Store app). The license is for use of the app as distributed through the App Store; it does not grant rights in the source code or trademarks.

Acceptable use

Use Keys for your own credentials, or credentials you are authorized to manage. Don't use it to store or distribute material you have no right to possess. Don't use it to attempt to access systems you have no authorization to access.

Your data

Keys is designed so that your credential data is yours: it is encrypted on your devices, synced through your iCloud, and never accessible to Abokado Labs. The trade-off is that Abokado Labs cannot recover or restore your data — lost passphrases mean lost vaults. You are responsible for your passphrase, your recovery code, and any backups you choose to export.

No warranty

Keys is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. While the app is built carefully and audited, no software is bug-free, and credential management is a high-stakes domain. Keep independent backups of anything you can't afford to lose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Abokado Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising from or relating to your use of Keys. Where liability cannot be excluded by law, it is limited to the amount you paid for Keys in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Third-party services

Keys integrates with optional third-party services that you control: iCloud (Apple), OpenRouter (for AI extraction, with your own API key), and the API providers whose credentials you store and validate. Their terms and privacy policies apply to the data you send them through Keys.

Changes

These terms may be updated. Material changes will be summarized in app release notes. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable to where you reside, to the extent those laws apply to an independent App Store app distributed through Apple's storefronts. Disputes that cannot be resolved by email should follow the dispute mechanism Apple makes available through the App Store.
